whupped

kind of a shitty day, but i am surviving. went to a great yoga class tonight, the breathing and meditation was wonderful and i got a deep sweaty practice in. so then i came home, ate a bowl of raisin bran and am now drinking a glass of red wine. listening to bootlegs of ian curtis.
nice life.

i love research and finding, hiring scheduling artists, but my current project is tough. i need to find rock star CG artists who are available on our schedule and there are 2 creatives that have to like the work. its an interesting challenge. the programs maya and 3dmax are truly mastered by only a few and then only in bits and pieces. i HAVE got to go to lunch - i work through and then eat some crap out of the vending machine. this is not working! i do take my lunch occasionally and will do again.

tomorrow night is mark knopfler. i have wanted to see him for years. this is going to be a truly amazing experience. my friend sus and i are going. simon is driving us bless him.

its midwest humid here.....

Back when I was programming VRML (I created a pretty neat method or animating ethologists' field notes) I checked 3DMax out ... amazing program ... really impressive. (I know of Maya, but that's all.) Amazing stuff ... if I was starting over I would get into graphics seriously.

if one wanted to invest in the programs and the time to learn them, one could make serious money and do some great art. the program these days starts at something like 11k i think?

Oh boy, I haven't a clue ... I got a cracked version of 3D Max coupla years back.

Is there actually a call for that skillset? It got so over-hyped in the late 90s ... like every other aspect of IT ... I can't say I got a good sense of the industry; my aversion / allergy kicked in bigtime.
Anecdotally, the one animator I've known personally (such a kewl guy ... he was hired on by a firm in Halifax ... they moved him all the way from Vancouver) ... he surprised me: doesn't use computers at all in his work ... all pen and paper (so to speak).

I can see someone learning them by themselves but, just intuition, not certain those programs could be mastered outside a formal learning situation.

(Whatever slight artistic ability I have has been left almost completely undeveloped.)

Did Adobe purchase 3D-Max?

I just googled to try to find a price (I'd guess $1K too, BTW) ... couldn't find it ... found lots of references to "Design CAD 3D Max" and then some others talking about Adobe. Dunno.

it was lifeblood and elegance rolled into one amazing night under a full moon.
i figured it out - i got the first album something like 26 years ago and have been waiting to see him for all these years. he hardly ever plays the west coast. it was wonderful
