Just back and having a day off after 13 days straight of work plus. My head and part of my heart is in birmingham. We interviewed from 8 in the morning to 11 at night, . We interviewed witnesses and participants in the marches, victims and survivors of the bombings and a very scary KKK member(white aryan asshole supreme). I work with the photos – personal and published and archival records, researching in dusty library basements, finding police records and reconstructing the events of 1963. Its draining and exciting. So glad to be back home for a bit to sort through it all. I learned so much and there has been so much of history revised its scary – found old fbi surveillience tapes and made friends with activists and historians.
The crew is fine, but I got heartily tired.
I missed simon like the devil and my friends so much.
I have about 3 months worth of work to sort through the photos, build the archive, document the interviews and follow up. I hope to god that I can focus on this. Our crew is small and sometimes one gets pulled in a bunch of different directions – setting up follow up interviews, technical research which I hate and general office shit.

Its a dark time in our history, and segregation still rules blatently. I met some brave, beautiful people, went to 5 church services and ate soul food one night in the black part of town, and drank champagne with whitey the next.. glad i have today to clear my head a bit.
