I love this movie! watched it tonight with simon who was also enchanted.

ok - wish us luck! Off to hike Devils Punchbowl in Pearblossom tomorrow am EARLY.
It is described as being geographic chaos - the point at which 2 faults butt up against each other with resulting landscapes not to forgotten.

Well, we will see about that!

have printed out maps, loading up the ipod with fun podcasts, got our backpacks just about ready and setting the clock for 'first thing!).
:)

I do appreciate the weekends!

glad that it is the weekend.
Monday i am working at home - we all are, as the electricity is out on the street where work lives.
so, a quasi 3 day weekend.

the mountains are snow capped - so tomorrow we have a grand plan to rise early and take a hike in the snow.
on Sunday we want to go to the beach. SoCal is amazing after a big long rain and in between storms...

making 18 bean soup tomorrow. soaking beans tonight.

i got the most Beautiful earrings from a colleague today for xmas. - love them -
pretty copper hoops with tiny engravings - her sister makes them - http://www.butterflycreationsjewelry.com/earrings.html
made me smile all day - i made little presents for my team, cards and made them each individual mix cd's...

had lunch with Blake today - love that boy -
now, off to sit in front of the fire and perhaps, just perhaps partake of some of my chili(defrosted. sorry) and some syrah. going to put up the lovely cards we got today first...

and if i have not mentioned this - i am so happy its the weekend!

sunday

We went yard saling yesterday morning. the temperature has finally dipped and it felt so alive to be up early and about needing a jacket.
we got lucky - i found some lovely clothes, some still with tags - virtually 3 new outfits for 21 dollars! there was a lady who was selling carved buddhas and ganeshas. got one for my sis for 2 dollars for her birthday, found her a beautiful new journal with handmade paper and a brand new organic cotton tshirt - for 6 dollars total.

we went to the Balloona wetlands then and hiked to the ocean. cold wind that blew the cobwebs out and cleared our heads. then we went to see Tropic thunder of all things, which was really, surprisingly good. Ben Stiller takes the piss out of hollywood in a glorious way with help from an astonishing cast.

today we worked on the house. i hung some tapestries, pottered on the balcony garden, did household stuff. Simn sanded down the coffee table and stained it AND we repainted the banister. its still crap, we both agree, but now its got a new coat of paint.
I roasted a chicken and veggies and we are winding down.
god i needed this weekend. just not a plan, not a commitment. when i needed to go sit and be quiet, i did.
The week will come and all the petty lists and noise and bs, but how grateful i am for this weekend, my husband and my boy.

did no less than 4 loads of laundry this morning.
going to do a bit of yoga and then treat myself and go get a facial(!)
I am going over here with the Si guy this afternoon and evening:
http://www.frogtownarts.com/

have always wanted to check this part of town out - we are going to go on a walking tour of the LA river, which is not a river at all by any traditional definition. I do love old warehouses. must bring camera!

had Lunch with Blake yesterday. He lost a friend to breast cancer and went to her funeral Thursday. It was pretty rough for him. We talked alot about services and letting go and how everyone has a different process. She was a poet in his group and they are planning a celebration of her life in a few weeks.

Just the tiniest bit of 'cool' in the air. we have all the windows open to feel the breeze.

I have said it before, but I truly love this time of year. It is a more powerful, magical time.

hmmmm. . that may be what is ailing my body. will know more in a few weeks.
right now, enjoying a sweet quiet evening. had a soak in the tub, watched a film with Simon and am eying Book and Bed.
going to the annual eye doctor thingie tomorrow am. then using the tickets we got as a gift to go see the Huntington Library. I am excited about this.
Have visitors coming from UK arriving Sunday nite. want to make a big pot of chili for them. I will pretend its 65 degrees and crisp outside. California is fine, but man do I need a dose of fall soon...

Hurrah!

Nothing but pleased to have made it to today - this is officially the END of a 4 week shit run.
pushing out the negative, sweeping out the dustballs.
I feel the tiniest bit of autumn, my very favorite time of year.
gonna coast through the day and engulf myself in the weekend, wrapping it around me and my family.

Time to get on with it.

between work and the volunteer stuff and the friends in crisis, we are just about ragged.
took on too much.
Doing a yoga/menopause workshop. Simon hopefully can have a few hours to himself - he has a great attitude and humor about all the drama.
we will see Blake tomorrow. he leaves for Peru on Tuesday. this amazes me still. just thrilled for him.
this made me feel better today - and is appropriate:
Gemini -
It's your job to make sure that people are talking and working together, whether you're at home or at work (or anywhere else, really). Your initiative makes the difference between success and failure.

need to look after myself though - ..

amazing weekend. perfect despite a lingering headache thing. so pristine and crisp. colors and shapes that just make me so happy.
had a great campsite, our friend John and Michelle found us easily, we had a great campfire, hikes to an oasis, laughter and somewhere I remembered my imagination.

I have to always make sure we get back to that place where the imagination takes over when confronted by beauty like the desert in bloom.

Cafe Aroma

If you ever find yourself in Idyllwild, treat yourself and go here:
http://www.cafearoma.org/
for a glass of wine, dinner or breakfast if you want.
here is why:
there is a woman who plays guitar on saturday afternoons and she plays Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez. it will make you cry.
there is a pretty man who wears a beret well and he plays classical guitar on Sunday morning while you eat breakfast and read the paper.
The bathroom is papered with the poems of RUMI.
they have 2 cats that are better than any tv show to watch.

I fell in love again with my husband here on Saturday night. then it snowed and we had breakfast there sunday watching the drifts and giggled. it was not just the altitude.

It is almost the weekend.
big transitions for me this week. i do finally feel that i have mastered the gig a bit. maybe its just that my period is over, or maybe, just maybe I am finding my voice and my wisdom. despite turmoil and drama, I do hope that I have a handle on it all.. My team is working SO hard - doing great work, but really pushing it.

Simon and I went for our walk tonight and then to the grocery store. We rented a cabin up in the mountains this weekend - got a GREAT deal. We stayed there last year. leaving tomorrow after work - bringing books, vino, yummy goodies to cook and firewood. No cell, no computer - just us and the water music of the stream outside the cabin. its tiny = basically a bed, a fireplace and a mini kitchen and bathroom. deck outside over the stream.
what else do we need really? great hikes, clean air - may rain or even, could we hope, snow? promises to be crisp and chilly -which we both love.
This will be a big treat for us both - we have been under the gun lately - lovin each other, but both with alot of 'stuff'. Marriage is pretty interesting - sometimes we are flowing together and then sometime separately. i leave in the am and Si goes into his office and writes. we have different worlds, but then really focus on each other with our precious time together. building something for the future, but we know the score on how we have to be in the moment.
and breathe. always breathe.

Your Score: Tigger

You scored 15 Ego, 12 Anxiety, and 15 Agency!

And as they went, Tigger told Roo (who wanted to know) all about the things that Tiggers could do.

"Can they fly?" asked Roo.

"Yes," said Tigger, "they're very good flyers, Tiggers are. Strornry good flyers."

"Oo!" said Roo. "Can they fly as well as Owl?"

"Yes," said Tigger. "Only they don't want to."

"Why don't they want to?" well, they just don't like it somehow."

Roo couldn't understand this, because he thought it would be lovely to be able to fly, but Tigger said it was difficult to explain to anybody who wasn't a Tigger himself.

You scored as Tigger!

ABOUT TIGGER: Tigger is the newest addition to the Hundred Acre Wood, and he lives with Kanga and Roo, because Roo's strengthening medicine turned out to be the thing that Tiggers like best. Tigger is bouncy and confident -some of his friends think he is a little TOO bouncy and confident, but attempts to unbounce him tend to be fruitless.

WHAT THIS SAYS ABOUT YOU: You are a positive and confident person. You feel capable of dealing with anything and everything, and funnily enough, you usually ARE. You don't worry about much, and you love to go out and find new adventures.

Your friends and family might sometimes be a little exasperated by your boundless enthusiasm. You don't like to admit your mistakes, and when you find yourself in over you head, you tend to bluff your way out of things. You would be surprised, however, at how happy the people around you would be if you would actually admit to a mistake. It would make you seem more human, somehow.

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 18% on Ego

You scored higher than 36% on Anxiety

You scored higher than 48% on Agency

read the papers together.
simon is at his writers group now - its a bath for me.
we MAY go to the movies tonight or we MAY NOT.
today i read about a poet that i instantly loved: Mary Oliver - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Oliver

Yes! No!
Mary Oliver

How necessary it is to have opinions! I think the spotted trout
lilies are satisfied, standing a few inches above the earth. I
think serenity is not something you just find in the world,
like a plum tree, holding up its white petals.

The violets, along the river, are opening their blue faces, like
small dark lanterns.

The green mosses, being so many, are as good as brawny.

How important it is to walk along, not in haste but slowly,
looking at everything and calling out

Yes! No! The

swan, for all his pomp, his robes of grass and petals, wants
only to be allowed to live on the nameless pond. The catbrier
is without fault. The water thrushes, down among the sloppy
rocks, are going crazy with happiness. Imagination is better
than a sharp instrument. To pay attention, this is our endless
and proper work.
