Michael Been passed away yesterday. Of The Call - such iconic music that led me through my revolution...

And the walls came down...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kX8lqXAONg

Not always but today, yes.
after gym and chores I took myself to my very favorite building here - the Central Library and gave the girl behind the table my ticket that I had reserved online for FREE and sat myself down to indulge in a hour of heavenly chamber music performed by four members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Hadyn, Handel and Beethoven. my heart wept and pounded in equal measure. Such beauty and emotion, control and abandon from 3 violinists and a cellist. For this girl from Alabama, it was a treat.

I think that Beethoven must have been a wicked lover. He understands passion and patience, desire and pain, all encompassing despair and ecstasy. Or at least that is how I hear it.

Tomorrow hiking and gardening.

Happy Vernal Equinox.

Bruce and Mike Ness of Social D? Hell yeah! For Blakes 16th Birthday, I took him and his buddies to the HOB to see Social Distortion. Last night, Mike N. showed up at the Springsteen gig. must have been magic!

Geez...

Today started at 7:30 at work.pulling long days and Saturdays until May 1 - we have to have the place packed up.
pep talk for the team - we went for tacos today together. We will get this done and hold our heads high when we lock the door and go our different ways.

Marc and Susan coming for chili and poker tomorrow night - Simon called me at work and asked me to make him a Key Lime pie. I dont do pie well. He then told me he had picked up the ingredients. So... I just made it. looks ok - will chill overnight. Fingers crossed. Sweet guy - that Simon.

Blake made me a mix CD called 'Soft Jams for Hard Times' with great new songs from bands I dont know. really great stuff.

So I was not at my best, sad, had the world sitting heavy and dark on my back and had to work most of the weekend, worried about getting a job after June 1st, bla, bla, bla...

so I am grateful that I pushed myself.
1) I had the best yoga class this morning - I am so glad I got myself up and out the door. It was glorious.
2) The balconies looked pretty ghetto - got the husband unit to help clear them both off, swept, repotted, trimmed, weeded, rearranged and now they are decent to hang out on. Well, as decent as you can get
in El Sereno.
3) Cat Stevens. I just started cranking up a bunch of old music I have not listened to in a long time. Rickie Lee Jones. Dr. John. The Rolling Stones. Iggy Pop. Elvis Costello. Keb Mo. Joe Strummer.

Happy Sunday, all.

I"I will not die an unlived life. I will not live in fear of falling or
catching fire. I choose to inhabit my days, to allow my living to open me, to make me less afraid, more accessible, to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch, a promise. I choose to risk my significance; to live so that which comes to me as seed goes to the next as blossom and that which comes to me as blossom, goes on as fruit." (thank you Ruthie for this!)

sometimes you get lucky and turn on the radio and hear something amazing -
Kasey Chambers - Bluebird.

My tastes are eclectic and all over the map, but on a rainy day off when i am puttering, a little sweet, sad country tune does me fine.

I treated myself:
http://www.redfloorrecords.com/HereIsWhatIs.htm

Oh, Oh Deep water
Black, and cold like the night
I stand with arms wide open
I've run a twisted mile
I'm a stranger
in the eyes of the maker

I could not see
for fog in my eyes
I could not feel
for the fear in my life
From across the great divide
In the distance i saw a light
Jean baptiste
walking to me with the maker

My body is bent and broken
by long and dangerous leaps
I can't work the fields of abraham
and turn my head away
I'm not a stranger
in the eyes of the maker

Brother john
Have you seen the homeless daughters
standing there
with broken wings
I have seen the flaming swords
there over east of eden
burning in the eyes of the maker
burning in the eyes of the maker
burning in the eyes of the maker
burning in the eyes of the maker

oh river rise from your sleep
