what an amazing piece of music. anytime i doubt the human being, i think of beethoven, who wrote some of the best music the world has, partially and then completely deaf. he heard it in his head and conducted via vibration. i am reading nick tosches book about dante, alternatively raging like an alchoholic about the pettiness of the corporate world and alternating with the solomn almost reverential description of the words and the language. really wonderful. and now we are off to matilija for a walk.
i worried alot last night when simon said this is a country of christians, as contrasted with england. are we a bunch of blind believers - bovines, being herded by the great god, Media, not ever raising our eyes to the heavens and the possibilities until right before we are herded into the chute?> depressing. this is such a deceptively provencial, conservative town, snobbishly naive in its deliberate blinders to the rest of the world. oh, we all live in our respective bubbles, myself included. but now, working here as well as living here, i am so stubborn about cultivating whatever quirkiness, obstinate rebelliousness that remains in me. i cannot just agree with the general consensus, nodding and grunting agreement, without debate. and if it bothers me, it must drove simon out of his head - i know he really misses a good arguement in the pub, be it about art, politics, atheism, whatever. soon, we will change this and find someplace that stimulates him and we won't rot away our minds. thank god for the internet, but we cannot live our lives going from screen to screen, as the masses are increasingly doing so.
but now, its off for a walk, to take advantage of where we live, while we live here.
