excellent day

Ann Lamott - I got to hear her speak today at the book fair. this was huge. someone that i dont like anymore gave me her book 'Operating Instructions' in the aftermath of the earthquake when i had lost my home, was going through the divorce and was being stalked. it was a very bad time and this book just saved me. she wrote about being a single mom, being poor, being hopeful,being tired. i love her.

I have wanted to go to the book fair for 10 years and it never worked out. It was heavenly. I could have spent so much money. I bought recordings for Cornell West and John Trudell from KPFK. They gave me a cd with highlights of DNC,RNC from the last 50 years.
I got a great book for blake - a group of interviews with punk musicians about being on the road.
And a cool one called lessons in taxidermy by a new writer called bee lavender that I got to meet. Simon got to see Kevin Smith. We shared a hot dog. Me and simon, that is.

came home. made him his goddam tuna cassarole and some brownies. we watched deadwood together and now i am going to have a lovely bubble bath and a glass of red. thank you very much.

sigh - its true

my refrigerator and I are not friends. i get along well enough with the rest of the kitchen, but have neglected the icebox. its my fault and it appears that today, amends must be made.
but first, i think i will go to yard sales!)

if i get my shit together, i am going to UCLA later today to see Anne Lamott speak at the Festival of Lights Book Fair. i have always wanted to check that out.

when we got out of the concert last night, it had started to rain. it smelled so good and with the memory of the music still vibrating in the air, the moment stayed with me.

later...just talked to Blake, the boy doesnt not want to use my truck. he will take the bus and use his bike until he goes on tour. he feels like he has been taking advantage of me and that he needs to get his shit together and deal with his stuff rather than depend on me all the time. whatever. i am here for him and will help in anyway i can...
busy week - but there is alot of work, plus an interview, which i have nothing to wear to...i think i will check out the thrift store on my way to the yard sales before i make up with the fridge.
