Insurance should cover the stereo. Hopefully you have the original receipt. The CD's would have been better covered under renter's insurance (not sure if such a thing is available in CA). For the most part, cops don't care but hopefully they'll be smart enough to send a list of the CD's you lost to second hand music stores. You may even want to do that yourself. If you find a good clerk and the perp walks in with them, he may get the guy to leave them there with a name and address saying he has to keep them for a day to check the quality, etc. Were they in the jewel cases or loose?
