holy shit!dreams come true. ill write about it in the muse section. Mark Knopfler is touring and i had the money(well, sorta..) to go see him. July 23rd.
i remember the day i bought their first lp - i was in college and it was a new release that no one knew anything about. blew my mind and i have never tired of listening to it.
rabidly have i listened to whatever he does. lo and behold, i fall in love with a man from the same city in northern england. Knopfler is passe to my husband, but he smiles and indulges me my passion.
to see him play that guitar live will be a culmination of 23 years of listening to him. and to see him with Sus - how amazing is that.
if those fuckers in the white house would take a couple hours to chill with Marko, we would be in alot better shape.
fuck, its a good life! the plants are grateful for the rain and blossoming all over the place. we have been sprucing up the house - the bathroom looks so nice with the new floor(no more moldy stained yellow lino staring at me while i,... well, you know - )...
we got lamps to hang, lists to make, taking no prisoners today!
anyway - what a glorious day. if one did not know better, we wouldnt have a war looming over us. is this great feeling i have, the last burst of life before the death rattle?
no, i dont want it - i want more mornings waking up like this.

or merlot. or shiraz.it COULD be, that is, without corporate evils that squeeze the humanity out of our blubbery selves, leaving grey husks drinking starbucks.
praise god(or any reasonable facsimile) for the geeks, the awkward, the rebels - not just the fresh young rebels, but those of us who are greying who refuse to do a suburban settle and continue to roar, 'This is NOT acceptable! This is not what i signed up for!'.
we have to continue to rail against the machine. sure, i will take what works for me in the new techno world, but here is an example. i go to the library to have a conversation about books.
i used to go to local book stores, but have you tried going to any B&N lately and talking to the gum-snapper behind the cash machine about the latest Caleb Carr or the merits of re-reading To Kill a MockingBird for the umpteenth time?
So - i check books out of our local library and go online for a humanless transaction for the rare ones. i can talk to our librarians because they are passionate - the library still has the musty smell and a slightly thick atmosphere. it does not smell like cappucino or fruity candles.
there are a few amazing bookstores left in my neck of the woods. you can spend hours at Barts books, strolling around, wiping dust off your hands, accumulating a stack of finds that will cost you less than a latte grande and provide hours of pleasure.
staffed by readers who remember where to find Science Fiction and know the difference between Sci-fi and Speculative Fiction(you will find Asimov under Sci-Fi and Ellison under Spec. in any self-respecting shop of note!
you can bring a box of read books to Barts and either donate them, get a credit towards your purchases OR give the credit to the local public schools so the poor librarians can come in to spice up their puny shelves for any student that wants to read. and god i hope they want to read.
here is what i am currently reading:
Rage to Live - bio of Isabel and Richard Burton(the explorer, not the actor - Ahem)
Vanity Fair - good trash is good trash
the sunday NYTimes
the latest Ann Rice(so its not Dostevsky - im escaping to New Orleans, ok?
and
Douglas's women - new novel by Jewell Parker Rhodes - read her books. she is wonderful.
